The first educational institution in the Army Area, Babina Cantt, was opened in July 1977 and was named Station Sainik Nursery and Kindergarten School, Babina Cantt.
Army Primary School, Babina Cantt was opened in July 1981 vide Army HQ, AG’s Branch letter No. 13/42044/ESSA/CW-12 dated 25 March 1980. The school was established to provide quality education to the wards of serving and retired defence personnel, including civilians paid out of the defence estimates. The school had classes from Nursery to Class V.
From July 1981 to July 1985, two educational institutions were functioning at the station, namely Station Sainik Nursery and Kindergarten School and Army Primary School. In July 1985, Station Sainik Nursery and Kindergarten School was merged with Army Primary School, Babina Cantt.
Initially, a sum of Rs. 6,85,000/- was sanctioned from the National Defence Fund for the construction of a primary school building. However, construction of the new building, comprising six classrooms with ancillary facilities, could commence only in 1989, as the land (6 acres of A-1 land in Survey No. 64) was allotted in that year.
Army Primary School, Babina Cantt was converted into Army School, Babina Cantt vide Army HQ, AG’s Branch letter No. B/42044/AWES/10-A/CW 4(a)-3 dated 26 November 1993 and came under AWES with classes up to VIII.
Army School, Babina Cantt was affiliated with CBSE, New Delhi vide their letter No. CBSE/Affl/21679/12011-15 dated 19 April 1994.
Affiliation up to Class X (Secondary School) was granted in April 1997, and the first batch of Class X passed out in 1998. The school was granted affiliation for Senior Secondary level in April 1998, and the first batch of Class XII passed out in 2000.
Thus, the school has progressively grown to the 10+2 stage and presently has a strength of 1,066 students from Classes I to XII, divided into 32 sections.
In addition to the existing accommodation (six classrooms), the school has also been functioning in re-appropriated OTM accommodation allotted by Station HQ, Babina Cantt.
